Don’t Cast Aside XI 3.1 for BusinessObjects 4.0 Yet, Consultant Says

A wait-and-see approach might benefit companies wanting to upgrade to BusinessObjects 4.0.
There is plenty of talk going on about the upcoming BusinessObjects 4.0 release, as there are a lot of cool features, which we’ve noted in past posts about pinning tabs and the new Information Design Tool.
That said, BusinessObjects 4.0 is a brand new version of the software, so it might not be something you want to jump on right away due to concerns about bugs or other early problems, said Randy Champagne, senior solution architect at DataSense Solutions, who spoke at the ASUG New England Chapter meeting in Boston in July.
Although BusinessObjects 4.0’s features are appealing, Champagne is not sure he’d upgrade to it on the first day of general release without getting feedback from others who have seen the product in action already, he said.
“It’s certainly not urgent if you’ve got [XI] 3.1 now,” he said.
Further, BusinessObjects 4.0 might require your company to install a new operating system if your processor isn’t 64-bit.
